Abandoned Satellites

This piece was selected for the Gnomon Student Reel as well as the annual gallery show, and is currently displayed throughout the campus.

One of the most rewarding feelings is finding beauty within tragedy. I was heavily drawn to this concept because it captures a sense of awe despite the eroded dystopian setting.

My technical focus on this piece was on texturing and shading. I am responsible for all aspects aside from the clouds which were purchased and then modified. To create the damaged metal dishes, I modeled the basemesh in maya, sculpted details in zbrush, then baked the details and added metal and dirt to the material in substance. The birds were created using expressions and nparticles in Maya.
